Having Trouble with Uneven Lies?

Thursday, July 18, 2019

Here are some tips that will help you hit four different shots when your golf ball is not on a level area.

You should apply these three concepts to each of the four different shots:

1)       Have a wider stance to help you keep your balance

2)       Have your body perpendicular to the slope of the hill but feel like you are leaning into the hill as gravity will pull you down

3)       Have a smooth swing (Not hard)

1.       UPHILL

1)       Use a longer club because as you set up, the clubface tends to add more loft

2)       Body perpendicular and shoulders parallel to the slope

3)       Play the ball a little more forward in your stance

4)       During your swing, make sure you swing along the slope and not straight into it

5)       Aim more right as you tend to release the club a little sooner as you hit uphill shots

2.       DOWNHILL

1)       Use less club because as you set up, the clubface tends to decrease the loft

2)       Body perpendicular and shoulders parallel to the slope

3)       Play the ball a little back in your stance

4)       During your swing, make sure you swing down along the slope

5)       Aim more left as you tend to slide and delay the release as you hit downhill shots

3.       BALL BELOW YOUR FEET

1)       Body perpendicular but feel like you are squatting all the way down to reach the ball (You want to keep this posture throughout the shot – tendency is to pull up)

2)       Lean into the hillside so more weight is on your heels

3)       Aim left as clubface rotation will be reduced

4)       Grip the club on the very end of the grip to lengthen it

4.       BALL ABOVE YOUR FEET

1)       Body perpendicular but feel like more of your weight is on your toes to fight gravity

2)       Aim right as clubface rotation will increase

3)       Choke down on the grip 1-2” to allow you to hit the ball in the center of the clubface

Follow these tips and this should help you with whatever you may encounter on the golf course!

Great Golfing!
